Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) - Percussion

I have been on the music faculty for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program (GHP) since 2023. This is a 4-week academic-intensive summer program for gifted high school students (rising junior and seniors) across the state. Students are selected through a rigorous audition and interview process.

Each year, the students collaborate with other music students within multiple ensembles (symphony orchestra, percussion ensemble, mixed chamber ensembles), music exploratory classes (music theory, music history, jazz history, conducting, etc), and a number of solo performance opportunities.

Guest Artists have included:

  • Joseph Petrasek (Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, principal percussionist)

  • Scott Herring (University of South Carolina)

  • John Lawless (Kennesaw State University)

Recent alum/student achievements:

  • Isaac Lee (Indiana University)

  • Sean Pau (Northwestern University)

  • Colin Magill (University of Michigan)

  • Haejoon Oh (Drexel University)

  • Henry Campbell (University of Georgia)

  • Rachel Martin (University of Georgia)
